Top 5 Favorite Mascaras and Reviews

Hi, y’all!  Today, I’m bringing you my list of my Top 5 Favorite Mascaras, ever!  I’ve been naturally blessed with lashes are short, sparse, and point straight down (yay, the trifecta ?), so mascara is a must for me.  I’ve tried my fair share of mascaras from both the drugstore and high end, and found that these are the best mascaras that have worked for me.  If they managed to add some level of volume and length to my problematic lashes, I’m confident they would work wonderfully for anyone ?

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

Price: $4.99 (ulta.com)

Overall Rating:    The original Lash Princess has a big and bold sister with voluminous false lash effects!  The conic shape fiber brush provides lashes with dramatic volume and sculpted length (ulta.com).  I have been obsessed with this mascara ever since my Essence Cosmetics haul (blogpost here).  I like the narrow brush which helps grab those small lashes in the inner/outer corners.  The formula is jet-black and quickly builds volume and length to your lashes.  When I first got this, I found the formula was on the wet side, making it difficult to hold a curl.  However, it slowly dried out (in a good way) over time and usage, and now, it is peeerfect ? As an added bonus, how adorable is this black and green, doll-like packaging?

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara (Waterproof)

Price: $9.99 (ulta.com)

Overall Rating: L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara is their first mascara for voluptuous volume and length.  Soft wavy bristle brush holds maximum formula for a dramatic volumizing charge (ulta.com).  I can see why this is considered a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, as it is very similar in terms of the chic pink packaging and the brush shape.  The Better Than Sex Mascara provides a ton of volume, but I found the product dried out very quickly and became clumpy during application.  The Lash Paradise plumps up the lashes with length and volume, minus the clumps.  Also, the waterproof formula does not mess around.  This does not smudge or flake throughout the day, but can be rather difficult to remove completely.  For that reason, I like applying a layer of Lash Paradise over a non-waterproof mascara for lashes that don’t budge, but are easier to remove at the end of the night.  This plus the Essence Lash Princess was my go-to combo while in Jamaica.

Covergirl Super Sizer Mascara (Waterproof)

Price: $6.99 (ulta.com)

Overall Rating: The Super Sizer by LashBlast Mascara gives you 400% more corner-to-corner volume for full, fanned out lashes. Our amazing Lash Styler transforms even small lashes— just twirl as you apply it to your lashes for an instantly Super Sized lash look (covergirl.com).   Out of all the mascaras I own, the CG Super Sizer, hands down, has the most unique shape.  I was skeptical that the mace-like, short bristled, brush was going to work for me, but boy did it!  It works amazing for grabbing all the little lashes, building up volume and length, and detangling lashes to ensure there are no clumps.  On myself, I found this is the BEST dry waterproof formula for holding a curl all day long.

Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara

Price: $25 (sephora.com)

Overall Rating: This volumizing mascara creates alluring high volume that instantly enhances lash looks. Its easy-glide formula allows for ultra-black, buildable intensity while lashes remain separated and defined (sephora.com).  I’ll be honest, any mascara over $10 is a bit too pricey for my comfort zone.  That’s why I’m stretching this deluxe sample size as long as I can 😉  However, this high-end mascara is actually one of the few that is worth its price tag.  The narrow brush reaches every single lash, quickly building length and volume.  The formula is pitch black and doesn’t flake or smudge throughout the day.  It doesn’t budge until you remove it at the end of the night.  Darn you Make Up For Ever, but I LOVE this mascara.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara

Price: $23 (sephora.com)

Overall Rating: Tarte lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara could be considered a dramatic makeover for your lashes.  This high-performance formula is proven to increase the appearance of lash volume by 330 percent—creating strikingly thick, sexy lashes (sephora.com).  This mascara has the Goldilocks of brushes, not too big and not too small.  It is just right for evenly distributing length and volume to your lashes.  It has a drier formula for a non-waterproof formula so it holds a curl nicely.  Again, this mascara is on the high end, in terms of pricing.  However, I found Tarte frequently has sales, promotional deals, and sample kits including their signature mascara so you can snag this for much less than its retail price.  I hoard deluxe samples of this mascara in my collection, which I received from sampler kits and free gifts with purchases ?
