Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario Review
Happy November, loves! Today, I am so stoked to kick off the new month by reviewing the much anticipated Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario! I previously reviewed the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette (review here) and I LOVED the stunning assortment of high quality eye shadows. It easily became one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes of all time! I immediately ordered the Mario Palette the moment it went live on the Ulta App, as I was eager to dive into it and see how it stacks up to my beloved ABH Eyeshadow Palettes.
What it is: A special- edition eye shadow collection created with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic. The palette contains twelve neutral and jewel-toned shades in a range of matter to metallic finishes (excerpt).
Price: $45, 12 x 0.02 oz eye shadows
Where to Buy: Ulta, Sephora, Macy’s, ABH website
Packaging:
The packaging is fairly compact and sleek, much like their traditional ABH palettes. It’s made of sturdy cardboard and stays firmly closed with a magnetic closure. I have had no issues traveling with the other ABH palettes, so this would also withstand the abuse of travel in a cosmetics bag. The black and gold design is simple, yet chic. This palette also includes a flattering mirror inside and a handy dual ended eye brush. ABH’s other palettes also came with the same brush and they are actually great quality. The fluffy end is wonderful for blending transition shades into the crease and the denser end can be used for packing color around the lash line.
Formula:
The quality of these eye shadows are AMAZEBALLS! They are just as smooth and creamy as the ones in the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette. These eye shadows are super pigmented and vibrant, offering true color payoff with one layer. What you see in the pan is what you get on your lids. The shades make a impact even against my golden-tan skin, so I see this looking beautiful on a wide range of skintones, from fair to deep. Additionally, they are so creamy and blend like a dream on the lids, creating the softest, smokey eyes. The mattes perform just as well as the shimmer shades. Because they are so buttery soft, there was quite a bit of shadow kick up when I initially dipped my brush in the shadows. However, I didn’t experience any fall out, which is a bonus. To be safe, I typically apply my eye shadow before my face makeup anyways.
Color: The Master Palette consists of 3 ultra matte shades (Lula, Isabel, Violeta), 7 satin shades (Hollywood, NYC, Kim, Muse, Claudia, Bronx, Paris), and 2 metallic shades (Marina, 5th Avenue). The gorgeous assortment of warm browns and olive shades just screams, “Autumn!” to me. I adore the beautiful shimmer shades, but also appreciate that Mario included three neutral, matte transition shades. My favorite shades are Muse (rose gold with a satin finish), Marina (champagne with a metallic finish), Isabel (burnt orange with an ultra-matte finish), and Bronx (metallic olive with a satin finish). I cannot get over how stunning these shades are!
Swatches:Application:I created two Fall-appropriate, smokey eye looks with this palette. This olive look was created by applying a mix of Tempera and Vermeer from the Modern Renaissance Palette on the brow bones to highlight, a wash of Isabel as a transition, Violeta blended in the crease, and Bronx along the lash line. This plummy eye look created by applying a mix of Tempera and Vermeer on the brow bones to highlight, a wash of Lulu as a transition, Violeta blended in the crease, and Muse on the lid on top of a black cream base. These shadows can be applied as a soft wash on the lids for everyday or you can really pack on the color for photos.
Overall Rating: I am ecstatic to rate the Master Palette by Mario as 10/10 stars! I held this product to very high expectations because of the hype and expectations from the brand, and this surpassed them all. For $45, it is pricier than all their other palettes. However, this is still a pretty good value for a gorgeous assortment of high quality eye shadows (breaks down to $3.75/eyeshadow). The color selection is beautiful, the formula is so creamy and pigmented, and they are a dream to work with. If I had to nitpick, I do wish it had a shimmer or matte shade that was light enough to highlight the brow bones. Other than that, this is stunning palette that will carry me well into Fall and Winter. I adore this phenomenal product and would recommend it to everyone! Stay tuned for a blogpost comparing the Master Palette and the Modern Renaissance Palette 😉
