Boxycharm August 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions
Hi dolls! Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of August’s Boxycharm! You can find my review on July’s Boxycharm here. Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month. What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price (sign up here).
August’s theme is Roadtrippin and came with 6 products.
- Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Eyeshadow Palette – $19 (Buy here)
Dare to be the life of the part with the Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Palette. These six stunning shades create bold, colorful looks leaving you ready for a night of fun (excerpt). First off, I’m indifferent to all the drama going on with the beauty influencers, I’m just here for the makeup 😉 That said, this packaging is beautiful and looks even nicer in person. It includes a nice mirror and feels very high end. Although it might not be wearable for everyday, I like the bold color selection, which reminds me of the Urban Decay Electric Palette. They swatch very smoothly and pigmented, but I found them to apply rather powdery on the eyes.
- House of Lashes Lashes in Featherette – $12 (Buy here)
Add length and dimension to your makeup look with your new favorite lsahes. Cruelty free, high quality and longlasting, these lashes provide up to 15 wears and will be the talk of every party (excerpt). This was my first time trying House of Lashes Falsies and I’m pretty impressed! The band is thin and feel very lightweight. Featherette is a wispy style that is “natural” enough for daytime and doesn’t overwhelm smaller eyes.
- Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Deep Thoughts – $24 (Buy Here)
Create bold, beautiful looks with your new Smashbox lip product. This pigmented loaded color glides on in just one swipe, getting you out the door and into the party quicker (excerpt). I can’t tell you how excited I was to get a wearable shade in this particular formula 🙌 I was sure I was gonna get a metallic liquid lipstick in hot pink or purple and have to pass it along, so I lucked out. Smashbox has a very comfortable mousse-like formula that is ultra lightweight, pigmented, and longlasting. Deep Thoughts is a beautiful brown-y nude that I will be happily rocking through the Fall.
- Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks – $25 (Buy Here)
After a night of partying, who doesn’t love a good eye mask? These gold foil undereye masks brighten, hydrate and reduce the appearance of dark circles. The hyaluronic acid diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, while aloe leaf extracts and lavendar oil cool and soothe your undereye area (exerpt). I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these eye masks. The gold foil is bougie AF, but the eye masks themselves felt amazing on the skin. It was so cooling, refreshing, and left my skin plump and hydrated. Gold Eye Masks are so extra… but I’m here for it 😉
- Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner – $22 (Buy Here)
Use it as an eyeliner, eyeshadow base, or even to touch up your brows, this creamy, chocolate toned pomade is the ultimate triple threat (exerpt). The eyeliner/eyeshadow/brow pomade, 3-in-1 concept is unique. Unfortunately, the execution is poor 🙁 In trying to be a multi-purpose product, it fails in all three categories. The color is too warm to be an eyebrow pomade, the consistency is too tacky to be an eyeliner, and it isn’t pigmented enough to be an eyeshadow base. This was a complete dud for me.
6. Adesse Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil – $18 (Buy Here)
Treat yourself, your nails and your cuticles after a night out. This lightweight, non greasy oil is formulated with vitamin E, shea, sweet almond and jojoba oils that are blended together to create a luxurious treatment that softens the cuticles, moisturizes and hydrtes the nails (exerpt). Applying cuticle oil is an extra step in nailcare I’ve always neglected, but I’ve left this on my nightstand in an effort to incorporate it into the nightly routine.
Overall Rating: I was pretty happy with August’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 9/10 stars. August’s box had a combined value of $120, and with the exception on one product, I really enjoyed this month’s overall product selection. My favorite picks of the bunch are the Smashbox Liquid Lipstick and House of Lashes Falsies.
Did you enjoy your Boxycharm? Which products are you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
