Boxycharm December 2017 Unboxing and First Impressions
Howdy, everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of December’s Boxycharm! You can find my review on November’s Boxycharm here. Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month. What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price.
December’s theme was Glitz Glam and came with 5 products.
- Real Her Blush Kit – $32 (realher.com)
Treat your cheeks to an instant natural glow with 3 shimmery tones (excerpt). The rose gold on white packaging is tres chic while the shade selection is pretty. However, I was disappointed in the blush formula, which I found powdery and lacked pigmentation. This may work for those with fairer skin tones who want to build up color slowly, but I had to really pack it on for it to show up on my skin.
- Bellapierre Pro Concealer Palette – $29.99 (bellapierre.com)
BellaPierre’s professional color correcting concealer palette is formulated with rich, creamy, good-for-your-skin ingredients helping create a flawless healthy complexion (exerpt). I don’t gravitate towards color correctors, just because I can’t be bothered with the extra step, but gave this a try as they look super cute in this sleek compact. I tried using the orange shade under my eyes before foundation, but the formula is very slick, borderlining oily. My concealer creased and just didn’t sit well on top throughout the day. I gave up after two different tries. Unfortunately, this product was another pass for me.
- Pretty Vulgar My Lips are Sealed Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Secret Sabotage – $24 (sephora.com)
A highly pigmented liquid lipstick that provides a radiant metallic finish, nice comfortable creamy texture, and a citrus cordial flavor (excerpt). I’ve been wanting to try the Pretty Vulgar brand since it came to Sephora. The whimsical packaging is super cute, which is its strong suit. The formula was creamy, glided on easily, and applied opaque. Secret Sabotage is a nude shade with subtle shimmer, so it looks more natural. I think metallic lips look great in photos, but I am not a fan of it on myself personally. Additionally, I typically love citrus scents, but this citrus cordial scent did not appeal to me at all.
- Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara – $23 (sephora.com)
A jet-black, vegan mascara that has a molded brush that grabs and coats even the tiniest lashes for 2700% more volume (exerpt). The pitch black formula builds volume after about three solid coats. The brush has short, stiff bristles that comb product through the lashes, so there is no clumping. The Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara still has my heart, but this is a nice mascara.
- Crown Brush Deluxe Blush Brush – $12 (crownbrush.com)
With super soft, dense synthetic bristles, this brush can be used with both powder and cream blushes, and provides medium to full coverage for a more dramatic finish (exerpt). With its tightly packed bristles, I prefer this brush for foundation application rather than for blush. The duo fiber bristles are ultra soft and blended my foundation well. The shape reminds me very much of the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
Overall Rating: I was very disappointed in December’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 4/10 stars 🙁 Despite having a combined value of $121, the selection of products was just a total let down, particularly for the last box of the year. I wish they had come through and ended the year on a high note. The only products I will be using is the Tarteist Mascara and Crown Brush.
Did you enjoy your Boxycharm? Which products are you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
