Boxycharm December 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions
Hi, dolls! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones. Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of December’s Boxycharm and the last Boxycharm of 2018! You can find my review on November’s Boxycharm here. Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month. What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price (sign up here).December’s theme is ‘Tis The Sea-Son and comes with 5 products.
- Suva Beauty Protege Palette – $34 (Buy here)
The Protégé Palette includes 6 eyeshadow shades and 2 brilliant highlighters. Create subtle or eye-stopping looks with the buttery shimmers and velvety matte formulas. The palette is lightweight, includes a mirror and is perfect for your makeup kit or travel (suvabeauty.com). In regards to packaging, the palette is very sleek and feels very well made. For the amount of space inside, I wished they had rearranged the layout to include more shades. You essentially have two options with the shade selection: a complete berry or copper eye look. The eyeshadow formula is on the dry and powdery side, and while pigmented, nothing stand out, other than Structure, the metallic lavender shade.
- Pretty Vulgar The Powder Room Translucent Setting Powder in Matte About It – $32 (Buy here)
This loose setting powder will effortlessly enhance the look of your foundation by blurring and filling fine lines without leaving a trace of color. This pore-minimizing, silky smooth powder was formulated to absorb excess oils, reduce shine, and provide your skin with a soft matte finish (prettyvulgar.com). My goodness, this is a huge tub of powder. I’m pretty much all “set” on my supply of powder for the next year 😉 While it may not be the most travel friendly, I love the vintage-y Pretty Vulgar packaging with the pink fluff. Super cute. The powder does the job of setting my concealer and foundation, mattifying the skin, all without leaving a white cast.
- Cosmedix Detox Activated Charcoal Mask – $30 (Buy Here)
Ultra-purifying and uber gentle, Detox Activated Charcoal Mask works like a magnet to draw out pore-clogging dirt, oil and daily impurities while cleansing away age-accelerating pollutants for a flawlessly fresh, smoother-looking and clarified complexion (cosmedix.com). This charcoal mask tingles as it dries down and left my skin feeling clean and soft after the treatment. However, it is much too drying for my skin type, particularly during the winter time. I’ll be reserving this for the summer months.
- Bodyography Lip Liner in Heatherberry – $12 (Buy Here)
An antioxidant lip pencil that glides on like your favorite lipstick with precise, pigment-rich color to frame, fill in, and define lips (bodyography.com). This wooden lip pencil is not as creamy as a retractable lip liner, but it does allow me to be more precise with defining my cupid’s bow and lasts a good amount of time. Heatherberry is a mauve-y pink that pairs beautifully with nude lipsticks.
- Tarte Glitter Paint in Insta-Famous – $20 (Buy Here)
This sheer lip gloss is infused with shimmering glitter and delivers luscious, multidimensional and high-shine finish. The reflective glitter gloss can stand alone or as a lip topper, giving your lips a fuller look (tartecosmetics.com). I am not a fan of metallic lipsticks so I was not excited for this product whatsoever, but I am pleasantly surprised by how subtle the shimmers are in this lipgloss. The formula is very sheer, so there are no obvious glitters. It honestly just looks and feels like a sheer gloss, which layers nicely over a nude lipstick.Overall Rating: I was fairly satisfied with December’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 7/10 stars. December’s box had a combined value of $128, which exceeds its cost. My favorite picks of the batch are the Pretty Vulgar Setting Powder and Tarteist Glitter Lip Paint.
Did you enjoy your Boxycharm? Which products are you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
