Boxycharm January 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions
Happy Friday, dolls! The weekend is on the horizon 🙌 Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of January’s Boxycharm! You can find my review on December’s Boxycharm here. Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month. What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price.
January’s theme is Rock 2018 and came with 5 products.
- Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer – $38 (Buy here)
Luminizer Primer delivers a natural radiant glow while blurring pores and imperfections for a beautifully illuminated flawless complexion (excerpt). This lightweight primer has the texture of a moisturizer, rather than the typical silicone-y feel. I see a slight shimmer upon application, but it’s not detectable once foundation has been applied on top. It makes for a smoothing base and gives a satin luminosity to the skin. I dig it 👌
- It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil – $24 (Buy here)
A universal, transforming long-wear eyebrow pencil infused with cutting-edge brow enhancing ingredients and technology (ulta.com). I’ve tried a deluxe sample of this brow pencil before, which I enjoyed, so I’m excited to receive this in a full-sized. The slanted tip reminds me of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. It makes it very easy to quickly fill in the brows and the spoolie blends out the product evenly. Additionally, the Universal Taupe shade matches my coloring perfectly.
- Crown Pro Glam Metals Palette – $25 (Buy Here)
Rock your look with the Crown Pro Glam Metals eyeshadow palette! These highly pigmented, ultra blendable shadows make smokey eye looks a breeze (excerpt). Unfortunately, one of the shadows in this palette arrived broken. I emailed Boyxcharm and they promised they would send a replacement or similar item with next month’s box 🤞 This is an all shimmer palette so you would have to bring in matte transition shades from another palette for a complete eye look. The shadows feel very creamy to the touch and pigmented upon swatching. However, I found it lacks oomph on my eyes. They’re not bad by any means, plus I think the shade selection is beautiful. They just don’t immediately wow me, like most of the Colourpop shimmer shadows tend to do.
- Pur Bronze and Brighten Cheek Palette – $34 (Buy Here)
An on-the-go highlight, bronzer, and blush palette with three skin perfecting powders to create an effortless and sun kissed glow on every skin tone (exerpt). I own the Pur Mineral Glow Bronzer compact, which I adore, and I noticed it has a different formula than the bronzer shade (right) in this palette. Whereas the bronzer compact had a satin finish, this shade in the palette is very shimmery, so I’m hesitant to apply this all over as a bronzer. Nevertheless, the formula of all three shades are very creamy and intensely pigmented, so I recommend using a light hand. Of the three shades, the champagne highlight is my favorite and the most wearable, in my opinion.
- Grandelips Hydrating Lip Plumper in Hot Fuchsia – $27 (Buy here)
This lip plumper, infused with Volulip and Hyaluronic Acid, instantly improves lip volume within 3-5 minutes, while hydrating dry areas (exerpt). This lip plumper has a cinnamon-esque tingle upon application, but not uncomfortably so (Too Faced Lip Injections, I’m talking to you). I can’t vouch for its long term volumizing claims, but it does give my lips a very glossy and plump look. In terms of pigmentation, this gloss is definitely on the sheer side. I would have preferred this in a nude shade, which I would rock more often than a hot fuchsia shade.Overall Rating: I am very happy with January’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 9/10 stars. January’s box has a combined value of $148 (score!), plus I really enjoyed the product selection and overall performance. My favorite picks of the batch are the Dr. Brandt Luminizer Primer and It Cosmetics Brow Pencil.
Did you enjoy your Boxycharm? Which products are you most excited to test out?

Mary Dee
