Boxycharm January 2020 Unboxing and Review
Today, I’m sharing with you my review of January’s Boxycharm! You can find my previous Boxycharm review here. Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month. What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price (sign up here).January’s theme was Breaking the Ice and came with 5 products.
- Pretty Vulgar Under Cover Concealer – $25 (Buy here)
Under Cover Concealer’s unique gel serum concealer helps you cover up problem areas, no matter how large or small. Its delicate formula keeps your skin hydrated, and it’s ideal for achieving a natural-looking, flawless finish (sephora.com). The shade I received was a spot on match for my skintone, so that was a good start. Unfortunately, the positives ended there 🙁 I’m all for those fresh, natural makeup days, but there is literally no coverage in this concealer. No matter how much I used, I found it just blended away into my skin and covered absolutely nothing. I couldn’t even salvage this as an eyeshadow primer, because it doesn’t cover the veins and dark shadows on my eyelid. Such as shame, because I was really excited to try this complexion product.
- Dr. Brandt 24/7 Retinol Eye Cream – $55 (Buy here)
This potent yet gentle light-reflecting and age-fighting cream creates beautifully bright, captivating eyes that command attention. The result of a carefully measured combination of retinol and a specially formulated ruby crystal complex, it illuminates eye contours while smoothing fine lines, helping to reduce wrinkles, and infusing the skin with moisture for a supple, youthful-looking eye area (sephora.com). This eye cream smells incredible, just like fresh tangerines. Fortunately, I’ve yet to begin my battle against wrinkles, so I can’t vouch for the retinol claims, but it is a very moisturizing eye cream for how lightweight it feels. It hydrates my eye area, making a nice base for makeup.
- Skin and Co Roma Truffle Therapy Face Gommage – $28 (Buy Here)
A delicate exfoliating cream, with a rich texture and soothing fragrance, the Truffle Therapy Gommage is a lush formula combining the best of Mediterranean lifestyle and the luxury Italian spa experience. A best-seller on three continents, our Truffle Therapy Gommage features our unique and exclusive extract, Superoxide Dismutase, a powerful free-radical scavenger reversing the signs of damage and aging (ulta.com). The apricot seed powder in this exfoliant reminds me of the classic St. Ives Apricot Scrub, which I loved using during my teenage years, despite its bad rap. This is just a lot creamier, feels more hydrating, and has a sweet vanilla, almond scent. I’ve been incorporating this into my skincare routine about once every three days, and so far, I’ve been enjoying it.
- Avant Skincare 8 Hour Radiance Renewal Sleeping Mask – $107 (Buy Here)
The 8-hour Radiance Renewal Sleeping Mask works to reveal more youthful and beautiful skin overnight. It also helps to tighten the skin and lessen the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines (boxycharm.com). This sleeping mask has a thick consistency, though it doesn’t feel greasy at all on the skin. I use it as the last step of my nighttime skincare routine to seal in all my serums and moisturizer. By morning, my skin feels much more hydrated, which I definitely appreciate during these drier winter months. Would I repurchase this sleeping mask for $107? No thanks, but I will happily use up this entire bottle in the meantime.
- Petite and Pretty Fully Feathered Volumizing Mascara – $16 (Buy Here)
Dress in black for a fully feathered fringe with volumizing mascara that adds instant thickness and definition. Petite ‘n Pretty’s quick-dry formula locks in the perfect curl while the hourglass applicator is sized to better fit young creative’s eyes (ulta.com). I have short, stubbornly straight lashes so I am very picky when it comes to mascaras. This mascara surprised me with its performance. The name describes it perfectly. It adds volume to lashes, building upon itself with a feathery look without clumping. I liked this way more than I expected.Overall Rating: I’m relatively satisfied with January’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 8/10 stars. January’s box had a combined value of $231. Admittedly, I was not initially wowed by the selection of the box ,as I did not recognize the majority of the brands. I had to remind myself that based on my preferences, I would be receiving more skincare than makeup and they did perform well. My favorite picks of the batch are the Dr. Brandt Eye Cream and Avant Sleeping Mask.
