Boxycharm May 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions

Howdy, y’all!  Today, I’ll be reviewing the contents of May’s Boxycharm!  You can find my review on April’s Boxycharm here.  Boxycharm is my favorite beauty subscription box that provides 5-6 full-sized items for $21/month.  What I love about Boxycharm is that the value of all the luxury products always well exceed the $21 price.

May’s theme is Boxy Bash and comes with 6 products.Boxycharm May 2018 Unboxing and First Impressions

  1. Pur Sculptor Highlight and Contour Palette – $30 (Buy here)

Pur Sculptor Highlight and Contour PalettePur Sculptor Highlight and Contour PaletteA four-shade, sculpting palette that features two high-beam highlighters and two matte contour shades that will leave skin sculpted to perfection and highly pigmented and buttery formulas (excerpt).  First off, packaging-wise, I like that they included a mirror and how sleek and travel friendly it is.  The powders are very pigmented, particularly the contour shades.  They packed a punch, even with my current tan, so I recommend using a very light hand if you have a fairer skintone.  Both contour shades are on the cool side, which mimics natural shadows, but I personally prefer warmer shades, since cool tones look ashy on me.  As for the highlights, the shades are beautiful and the formula is very reflective, but emphasizes texture on my cheekbones 🙁 This is not a bad palette per se, but I just don’t see myself reaching for it often.Pur Sculptor Highlight and Contour Palette

  1. Cover FX Blurring Primer – $38 (Buy here)

Cover FX Blurring PrimerA lightweight, soft focus primer that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines, and other imperfections creating a smooth canvas for flawless foundation application (excerpt).  This Cover FX Primer has the same look and texture as the Benefit Pore Fessional.  It initially dispenses a thick beige lotion, that melts into the skin giving it a smooth, powder-like finish.  I don’t see it prolonging my foundation any longer than usual, but it makes my skin baby soft and does a good of a job filling in the pores around my T-zone before makeup application.

  1. Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner in Black List – $24 (Buy Here)

Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner in Black ListThis highly pigmented gel eyeliner provides quick drying application with enriched Vitamin C to condition the lids.  Its creamy and water resistant formula allows for smooth application that stays in place all day (excerpt).  How cute is this vintage-y ink jar packaging?!  There is so much product inside I don’t think I would ever run out of gel liner again 😍 The only drawback to the packaging, other than it being on the bulky side, is that it’s easy to dig your brush in too deep and get way more product on your brush than you need.  I had to learn not to just blindly dunk my brush in the jar 😅 Other than that minor issue, this is a fabulous gel liner.  The formula is so creamy, easy to maneuver, pitch black, dries to a true matte finish, and lasts until you wash it off.  LOVE this!Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner in Black List

  1. Aesthetica 3 Piece Eye Trio – $45 (Buy Here)

Aesthetica 3 Piece Eye TrioThe Aesthetica Trio Series comes with an Angled Eyeliner Brush, a Brow Spoolie, and an Fine Tipped Eyeliner Brush.  A convenient 3-in-1, used for a wide variety of looks, from a subtle wing to dramatic cat-eye.  Use the brow brush for fuller, more defined eyebrows (exerpt).  These eye brushes are well built and the bristles are soft.  I just know I won’t be reaching for the Brow Spoolie or Angled Eyeliner Brush (too wide for my smaller eyes) so I will be passing it along.  The Fine Tipped Eyeliner Brush, however, I do love to use in conjunction with the Pretty Vulgar Ink Liner to create a precise sharp wing.

  1. Aesthetica P12 Face Brush – $27 (Buy Here)

Aesthetica P12 Face BrushWith synthetic fibers that allow for maximum control, the P12 face brush is perfect for creating a seamless look (exerpt).  This face brush has very soft bristles, but I’m personally not a fan of the shape.  It is too narrow to be a large powder brush, but too wide to be a contour or blush brush.  It’s just…meh 🙁 For that reason, I will be passing this along as well.

6.  Beauty Creations Matte Lip Gloss in Kiss Me – $10 (Buy here)Beauty Creations Matte Lip Gloss in Kiss MeBeauty Creations Matte Liquid Lip Gloss is specially formulate to provide full coverage that dries to a seamless, smooth and matte finish.  Its lightweight application is long wearing for an effortless lip color that compliments all skin tones (exerpt).  I am not sure why this is marketed as a matte lipgloss, because it has all the characteristics of a liquid lipstick.  The formula is lightweight and highly pigmented, coating the lips in opaque color with one layer.  It looks shiny initially upon application, but quickly dries down to a true matte finish and does not budge or transfer.  Kiss Me is a gorgeous, flattering fuchsia with a yummy raspberry scent.Beauty Creations Matte Lip Gloss in Kiss MeBeauty Creations Matte Lip Gloss in Kiss MeMakeup Look Using Products from May’s Boxycharm:Makeup Look Using Products from May's Boxycharm 2018Overall Rating:  I was happy with May’s Boxycharm so I’m giving it a rating of 9/10 stars.  May’s box had a combined value of $174 (yowza!), and I enjoyed the mix of products.  Although, I’m passing along the makeup brushes, I still appreciated that they included 6 items instead of the usual 5, and I really liked the other goodies in the box.  My favorite picks of the batch are the Pretty Vulgar The Ink Gel Eyeliner and Cover FX Blurring Primer.

Did you enjoy your Boxycharm?  Which products are you most excited to test out?

Mary Dee
