Chic Beauty Box September October 2020 Unboxing and Review
Chic Beauty Box is a beauty subscription box that provides 4-5 full-sized makeup products worth over for $100 for $34.99 every other month. They were kind enough to send me a complimentary box to test out and provide my honest review. Because Chic Beauty Box is based out of Canada, shipping to the United States is an additional $7.95. However, you can use my non-affiliate code BEAUTYJOURNALSXO for 10% off your entire subscription (sign up here)!September/ October’s box came with 5 products, and included an insert card that lists all the products in every box variations, with prices. Paying subscribers have the ability to customize their boxes and choose every product. Because I received this box in PR, I was unable to make any customizations and the contents of this box were a complete surprise to me.
Having never tried Bare Minerals Eyeshadows before, I had low expectations for this palette. However, the formula is remarkably creamy, blendable, and pigmented too. The neutral color story is not groundbreaking by any means, but they are totally my jam. It makes it a breeze to create a quick, pretty smokey eye. I also appreciate the sleek compact with the large mirror for taking on the go. Buy Here.
This highlighting powder is very finely milled and imparts a beautiful sheen to the cheekbones. The pigmentation is buildable, if an intense glow is desired. Free is a true golden champagne that compliments my warm/ tan skin tone and I loved the subtle glow this gave my cheekbones. Buy Here.
I think this Eye Vinyl Pen is a very unique concept and would look incredible for an editorial look. However, I just know it would be unrealistic to rock glossy black lids for everyday wear. Can you imagine the product sliding around and your hair sticking to your eyelids? LOL Just for kicks, I tried this combined with a red lipliner to create a blackberry lipgloss, and I am kind digging the vibes. Is it not perfect for Halloween? Buy Here.

I was never a fan of the metallic lipsticks or lipglosses trend and I still am not to this day. Unfortunately, I already know I will never reach for this again so I will be passing it along to a friend. However, from a formula perspective, it’s nice and glossy plum shade, without any chunky, gritty glitters. Here, I paired it with the Bare Minerals Eyeshadow Palette and Highlighter and thought it made for a very Fall appropriate look. Buy Here.
I generally like NYX products, but this gel liner was a huge disappointment. This is such a shame because Deep Purple is a gorgeous shade, particularly as a colorful alternative to black liner. I rock a winged liner pretty much anytime I am wearing makeup, and I just could not get this product to work correctly. The liner was creamy, but somehow not pigmented enough to create a sharp wing. The product would skip and slide, creating a streaky mess. Its only redeeming function would be as a creamy base to intensify eyeshadows on top. However, as a standalone gel liner, this was a complete dud. I was not thrilled with the particular variation I received. My understanding is that there is a Choice window where you can customize the items in your box. If I was given the opportunity to choose the NARS palettes and Too Faced lippies instead, that would have 100% turned things around and made it well worth the value of the box. My current variation has a retail value of $98, which is not quite the promised $100+ value. However, just like with my Boxycharm subscription, there are good and bad months. If I based my final review of Boxycharm on one of their disappointing boxes (and there are plenty), I would have canceled my subscription years ago. I am giving Chic Beauty Box the benefit of the doubt and holding out for what November/ December’s box will bring. What did you think of the contents and value of the Chic Beauty Box? I would love to hear your thought so be sure to leave them below!

Mary Dee
