Colourpop Golden State of Mind Eyeshadow Palette Review
Hi dolls! Today, I am bringing you my review of the Colourpop Golden State of Mind Eyeshadow Palette! As you probably know by now, I am obsessed with Colourpop’s Pressed Eyeshadow Palettes. I have already reviewed the Colourpop Yes, Please! Palette (blogpost here), I Think I Love You Palette (blogpost here), and Fem Rosa She Palette (blogpost here). So when Colourpop first released this Golden State of Mind Palette to Sephora, I had to give it a try. What it is: Inspired by the place ColourPop calls home, Golden State of Mind features 15 exclusive Pressed Powder Shadows. This unique formula gives multidimensional luster and shine to the eyes with one-stroke metallic intensity (sephora.com).Price: $26, 15 x 1g (sephora.com)Packaging: I like that the palette is super sleek, compact, sturdy, and travel friendly. Like the other palettes, the names of the shades are directly on the back of the palette, and there is no mirror. The nude packaging with the metallic rose gold design is tres chic.Formula: This is an all shimmer/metallic finish palette. There are no matte or even satin shades so unless you’re doing a simple one eyeshadow look, you’ll have to pull in matte shades from another palette for a complete eyelook. Unlike the other palettes, I am rather disappointed in the performance of these shimmer shades as I found they lacked consistency. They are very hit or miss and vary from shade to shade. Certain shades have more kickup and fallout than others. Some feel buttery to the touch, while others have a chalky consistency, which resulted in patchiness and lack of pigmentation. Even when I applied the light metallic shades on the center of the lids with my finger for a halo effect, it lacked that extra oomph 🙁.Color: I don’t mind that all these shades are shimmery because I was aware of that at the time of purchase. However, I am disappointed in how similar these shades are to one another when swatched and applied on the eyes. It’s difficult to use multiple shades in an eye look because there is just not enough of a difference between them to create a contrast. The shades start to blend into each other on the eyes. I would love it if they had included a range of light to dark smokey shades. Instead, most of the shades are in the medium spectrum, with not enough disparity between them.Swatches: If these shades are looking mighty similar to one another…that’s because they are. 😂Overall Rating: I was rather let down by the Colourpop Golden State of Mind Eyeshadow Palette so I award it a rating of 5/10 stars. I love the pretty packaging, but that’s about it. The shadows are just not as buttery and pigmented as I’ve come to expect from Colourpop Pressed Eyeshadows. Even with the $26 price tag, I would not recommend as you can get an amazing Colourpop Palette, albeit smaller, for only $16. As much as I want to expand my Colourpop collection, I know instinctively I’ll never reach for this palette. Unfortunately, this is the first Colourpop Palette I will be returning 😞.
Have you tried the Colourpop Golden State of Mind Eyeshadow Palette? What are your thoughts on Colourpop’s Pressed Eyeshadows?

Mary Dee

So much sparkle! It’s such a pity the palette didn’t live up to your expectations, usually shimmers are super creamy and pigmented, even with cheap brands. 🙁

I totally agree girly! I think because Colourpop set the bar so high with their $16 palettes, I know their shimmers can be better 🙂

I’m not a shimmer or glitter girl at all, so I knew from the beginning this palette wasn’t for me. Even the color section is not up my alley, and what a shame about the quality :/

Right? It was very disappointing, particularly since it was one of the first palettes introduced to Sephora. The palette is half off today and I still wouldn’t recommend :/

The colors look beautiful! I hope the quality would be better as well …
Happy Holidays 🙂 <3

I agree, it’s a shame it didn’t perform better.
Happy Holidays to you as well, doll! <3
