Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundations Review
Hiii dolls! Today, I will be reviewing the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundations that I received in my Beauty VoxBox from Influenster! I’ve heard rave reviews about the HD Foundations so I was thrilled to be selected. This VoxBox includes a full sized Ultra HD Invisible Cover Liquid and Stick Foundation, so that was very generous as this brand is on the high-end side.
What it is:Ultra HD Liquid Foundation (right) – A bestselling HD foundation with an ultra-lightweight texture that provides ultra flawless skin. Price: $43, 1.01 oz (Sephora.com).
Ultra HD Stick Foundation (left) – A long-lasting, multitasking cover stick with invisible coverage for foundation touch-ups and contouring. Price: $43, .44 oz (Sephora.com).
Packaging:
Both foundations come in sturdy plastic packaging so I can see them both being travel friendly. Bonus points to the Liquid for including a convenient and hygienic pump for controlled dispensing of product. Overall, I enjoy the ultra sleek and chic packaging of both.
Color:
I love that the Liquid comes in 40 shades, catering to wide range of skintones so you can be sure to find your best shade. The stick foundation only comes in 15 shades, and have corresponding numbers to the Liquid formula. However, despite both my liquid and stick foundation being the shade Y405, I do not find the shades to be completely identical. I was fortunate to have picked an tan/olive shade that matches my skintone close enough to work with. To be safe, I would recommend going into a Sephora store and getting color matched in the two different formulas to ensure it will match you exactly.
Formula:
Ultra HD Liquid Foundation – This revolutionary foundation features uniquely-coated pigments that provide medium to buildable coverage with an even lighter weight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin…It contains hyaluronic spheres to ensure comfortable wear on all normal, dry and combination skin types, and it lasts all day, leaving a natural-looking finish (Sephora.com). I find that the foundation provides rather light to medium coverage, not what I had expected from a foundation that was meant for TV and photography. I assumed it would have provided ultra full coverage with one layer, but that was not the case. However, this indeed feels lightweight and comfortable on the skin, doesn’t get cakey, and provides a satin, skin-like finish.
Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation- The revolutionary foundation contains amino acid coated pigments that provide medium-to-full coverage with a lightweight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin. It leaves a natural-looking, radiant finish, and it’s formulated with hyaluronic spheres for time-released hydration that is perfect for normal to dry skin. Ideal for foundation touch-ups and contouring, it can be applied at home or on-the-go for a flawless complexion (Sephora.com). Despite this being a cream formula, it did not feel heavy as I blended it out. One layer gave me very light coverage and while it is buildable, I don’t see myself applying more than 2 coats as I feel that becomes just too much product on the skin. This foundation has a satin, borderline dewy finish on my skin. This may be too shiny for those with oilier complexions. My dry skin appreciates the moisture. However, I would still recommend setting the foundation with a translucent powder to lock it in.
Application:
With these foundations, I found that application with a Beauty Blender was too sheer as most of the product is absorbed into the sponge. For more coverage, I preferred using a synthetic face brush for both. For the Liquid (left, unretouched photo), I prefer buffing it into the skin with my flat top kabuki brush from BH Cosmetics. One pump is more than enough to coat my entire face with a very natural, satin finish. For the Stick (right, unretouched photo), I swiped the cream directly on my cheeks, forehead, and chin, then buffed it in with the Morphe M439 brush. In terms of longevity, I can get between 6-7 hours wear from both formulas.
Overall Rating: I would rate the MUFE Ultra HD Liquid Foundation as 8/10 stars and the Stick Foundation as 7/10 stars. I held these products to very high expectations as they have a cult following and retails for $43 each, a rather hefty price tag. Also, because of the “HD” in its name, I assumed these foundations would provide ultra full coverage with one layer, so that took some adjusting to. I don’t like wearing foundation everyday so when I do, it’s either for a special event and/or I will be taking photos. So, I personally prefer a heavy duty, flawless base that will cover everything and essentially make me look like a doll 😉 For that reason, I don’t have much use for light coverage foundation. I will say however, that for the light/medium coverage, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully both foundations photographed, blurring minor imperfections. Between the two, I would recommend the Liquid as it feels lightweight, comes a wide range of skintones, and can work for a variety of skin types. With the creamy formula and dewy finish, oily complexions may not enjoy the Stick Foundation as much. It really comes down to personal preference and what you are looking for in a foundation 🙂
Have you tried the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundations? What are your thoughts on the product?
XOXO,
Mary Dee
