Marc Jacobs Beauty Glow Stick Review
Hi loves! Today, I will be reviewing the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator that I received in my Beauty VoxBox from Influenster. I’ve previously received two sample boxes from Influenster, but this was by far the most exciting one. I’ve heard good things about Marc Jacob products on social media, but I have yet to purchase any. This VoxBox included a full sized Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator, so that was very generous as this brand is very high-end aka pricey.
What it is: A portable cream stick highlighter in a first-ever universal shade for instant dewy payoff (Sephora.com).
Price: $42, 0.49 oz
Where to Buy: Sephora
Packaging: My first impression when I opened the package was that it reminded me of travel-size deodorant, complete with the twist up dial. According to Sephora.com, “The oval shape of the stick applicator is designed for impeccable one-swipe coverage, fitting perfectly at the tops of cheekbones”. The white plastic is very sturdy, and would withstand the abuse of travel. However, I do not love the deodorant-like packaging, but that is a matter of personal preference.
Formula: The illuminator has a very creamy consistency. I am not sure how this would perform on oily complexions, but this glided well on my dry skin and stayed true to color all day. It imparts a subtle, dewy sheen without a hint of glitter. The shade itself is fairly neutral with equal parts gold and silver pigments, making it flattering to a wider range of skin tones.
Application: As suggested on the website, you can swipe the product directly along the cheekbones and just rub it in with your fingertips. I didn’t enjoy applying it directly to my face, as I found it lifted my concealer and foundation below. Instead, I dipped a stippling brush in the cream and applied it onto the cheekbones. I also used a pointed detail brush to apply a bit to the cupid’s bow and bridge of my nose. The effect is definitely more subtle than I’m used to with my other powder and cream highlighters. As a result, the highlight does not show up as brightly pigmented in photos. However, it does impart a nice, glowy sheen in person.
Overall Rating: I would rate this cream luminizer as 6/10 stars. I held this product to very high expectations as it retails for $42, which is a hefty price tag. Although I am grateful I was given the opportunity to review this product, I would not have purchased this product on my own, due to the high price point. If you are a makeup junkie, this Glow Stick would make a nice addition to your highlighter collection, as I do think the quality is there. However, I believe you can find a more affordable, equally creamy and pigmented cream highlighter that will also do the job. As a budget-friendly alternative, I would recommend Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek Highlighters at $6 a piece. They are my absolute favorite cream highlighters as they are ultra pigmented, creamy, and blend like a dream. My favorite shades are Butterfly Beach (rose gold) and Glo Up (copper).
Have you tried this Glow Stick Illuminator? What are your thoughts on the product?
XOXO,
Mary Dee
