Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Review

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend with your family and loved ones. 🦃 Today, I’m bringing you a quick review of the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Eyeshadows! I own a handful of the original Color Tattoo cream shadow pots and adore the smooth, pigmented formula. I spotted these while perusing Ulta and picked it up on a whim to see how they would perform.

What it is: Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Eye Chrome in heavy metal hues saturate your lids in liquid chrome shine for up to 24 hours (ulta.com).

Price: $8.99, 0.11 oz (ulta.com)Packaging: The tres chic packaging was the first thing that caught my eye. I like that it is ultra sleek and compact. Additionally, this is the first eyeshadow product I’ve personally tried with a doe-foot applicator.Color: There are 10 shades offered on Ulta’s website ranging from champagne, to silver, and sapphire blue. The lighter shades looked gorgeous, but I was drawn to the darker shades: Electric Emerald and Sharp Purple. Electric Emerald is a stunning forest green while Sharp Purple is a dark, smokey violet shade.

Formula: The formula of these eyeshadows is creamy, but very difficult to blend. You have to work quickly as they set quickly, and do not blend well with other powder shadows or even each other. Although the colors look very pigmented initially, they are not quite as vibrant on the eyes. Electric Emerald is more opaque than Sharp Purple, which applies more streaky and patchy. I also find it is difficult to apply my liquid eyeliner on top of the eyeshadow as it hardens and cracks. That is not a cute look 🙁 I’ve tried giving these several different tries, but each time, was disappointed in the finished outcome.

Swatches: Admittedly, these swatch beautifully on my arm. It had a more difficult time translating to my eyes though.Overall Rating: I was rather disappointed in the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chromes so I am giving them a rating of 6/10 stars. I loved the Color Tattoo Shadow Pots so much that I was let down by the performance of these. I like the chic packaging, unique concept, and beautiful shade selection. However, the formula is not as pigmented and blendable on the eyes as I had hoped. Perhaps the lighter shades in this collection might be easier to work with as a quick wash of colors on the lids than the two dark shades I purchased. For me personally, I’m giving these a pass. Colourpop recently released Supernova Eyeshadows that has the same concept and I’m already eyeballing those 😉
