My Travel Blog : Sedona, Arizona
Every month, my husband and I plan a road trip to visit new cities and landmarks in the great state of Arizona, where we now call home. It’s an exciting experience as we get to familiarize ourselves to our surroundings and explore new destinations together. Last month, we ventured into Tucson (blogpost here). This month, we visited the beautiful, distinctively red-rock town of Sedona, Arizona! This was technically our second time visiting Sedona. However, the first time we visited, we were stuck in a thunderstorm, so we literally drove 2.5 hours there and then had to turn back. 🙈 Let me tell you, driving through a thunderstorm during the monsoon season is…not fun. 😅We were so glad we made the drive back because it was totally worth it to see the town on a bright, sunny day. Would you look at those incredible red rock formations against the backdrop of the clear blue skies?! 😍 Stunning. As you drive down the mountain to enter the town, you can clearly see the outlines of Sedona because of the distinct shift between the typical brown/beige surroundings to the intense red color of these rocks. Honestly, pictures don’t do it justice.Do the red rocks and rugged landscape remind anyone else of Mars? Because it is giving me major Total Recall circa 1990 vibes. 😉 One of the landmarks we visited was The Chapel of the Holy Cross, a Roman Catholic chapel that has been built right into these steep rocks. The stunning architecture is really a sight to behold. After a quick lunch at a local deli, we swung by a convenience store by the side of the road and picked up a souvenir to commemorate our trip, in the form of the local beer. You won’t find any dangly keychains or fridge magnets here! We are both very practical people. 😉For our last stop, we decided to quickly drive to Flagstaff, which was about another 45 minutes north of Sedona. I was shocked by how much Flagstaff reminded me of Lake Tahoe. I felt like I had been plucked out of the Arizona deserts and dropped back in Northern California. There were beautiful open green fields and tall pine trees as far as the eye could see.I can’t tell you how scared I was, posing for this picture. Don’t I look constipated? 😂 I’m absolutely terrified of heights and it was a sheer drop on the other side of this cliff. I was also growling at Adam to take the shot so I can run back to the safety of our car.We didn’t stay too long in Flagstaff as there was a forest fire, so a fog of smoke was rolling through. Still, I was thankful for the chance to take in the breathtaking scenary and will be back to visit again soon. Fare thee well, Flagstaff and Sayonara, Sedona! Until next time!
