Play! by Sephora April 2019 Unboxing and First Impressions
Hi dolls! Today, I’ll be reviewing April’s Play by Sephora! You can find my review of February’s box here. Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).April’s theme is Winning Beauty and comes with 6 products. As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores and online for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.
- Urban Decay Perversion Mascara in Black
A lengthening and volumizing mascara that glides on easy for full-bodied lashes (insert). This gunmetal packaging is so chic! The brush is a nice size as well, not too big and not too small. The pitch black formula gives natural length and definition without the clumps, making it the ideal bottom lash mascara. For my top lashes, which need all the help they can get, this is just not volumizing enough.
- It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil in Universal Taupe
A natural looking pencil that works for any color eyebrow (insert). The slanted tip reminds me of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. It makes it very easy to quickly fill in the brows and the spoolie blends out the product evenly. Additionally, the Universal Taupe shade matches my coloring perfectly.
- Volition Beauty Turmeric Brightening Polish
A turmeric powered polish that maximizes dullness and uneven skin tone (insert). As instructed, I massaged a quarter size amount onto wet skin and left it on for two minutes before rinsing. The polish has little granules that feel like a combo of sugar and crushed nuts (think St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub). It does a good job of exfoliating the skin, leaving it feeling softer, but no brightening effects yet!
- Sephora Collection Triple Action Cleansing Water
A no rinse, soap free cleansing water that removes impurities and makeup (insert). Micellar Waters are my must-have for makeup removal so I was excited to try this Matcha Green Tea one from the Sephora Collection. It works wonderfully for removing all my face makeup, but when it comes to eyeliner and mascara, a little extra time is required. Still, this got the job done and I will happily finish the sample.
- Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +
A fast absorbing daily moisturizer that combats dryness and balances skin (insert). I remember first trying this moisturizer in my teen years and it felt too heavy and emollient. Then I re-tried this lotion again not too long ago and it felt too watery and lightweight for my now severely dry skin 😂 So, funny how that works out. I will be passing this along to my husband who has combo/ oily skin and will get more use out of it.
- Sachajuan Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
A moisturizing shampoo and conditioner duo that leaves hair supple and strong (insert). Boooo 👎 Bring back the perfume samples! This haircare brand may be awesome for all I know. I just never get around to using these single use shampoo and condition packs so they will be getting passed along.
Overall Rating: I feel nonchalant about April’s Sephora Play! Bag so I’m giving it a rating of 6/10 stars. I just wasn’t wowed by the product selection and I’m always bitter when they replace the perfume samples with single use haircare samples 😇 My favorite picks of the bunch are the Sephora Micellar Water and It Cosmetics Brow Pencil.
What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag? Which products were you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
