Play! by Sephora January 2019 Unboxing and First Impressions
Hi y’all! Today, I’ll be reviewing January’s Play by Sephora! You can find my review of December’s box here. Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).
January’s theme was Horoscope and came with 6 products. As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores and online for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.
- BeautyBlender BlenderCleanser Solid Pro
A charcoal infused soap that removes excess product, dirt, and oil from makeup tools (insert). I usually just wash my beauty sponges and makeup brushes with hotel bar soap (which works fabulous by the way), but I’ve heard only good things about the Beauty Blender Solids. This is the perfect travel size to take with me on my upcoming trip to put to the test.
- Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
A quick absorbing gel mask that hydrates skin while you sleep (insert). I was really stoked to try this cult favorite Sleeping Mask. The cooling gel formula, while lightweight on the skin, just isn’t hydrating enough for me during the dry, winter time. That is usually the case I’ve found with gel moisturizers. I’ll finish off this sample, but it does not improve the appearance of my skin enough by morning to warrant a full sized purchase.
- Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Glace
A high pigment lip crayon in a dusty mauve shade with a matte finish (insert). I love the convenience of the crayon packaging for taking on the go. You don’t need lip liner to easily reapply throughout the day. Bite Beauty consistently makes beautiful lipstick formulas that are comfortable, creamy, and opaque. As an added bonus, I love the cola scent 😍
- Bite Beauty Agave Sugar Lip Balm and Scrub
A gentle lip scrub that cleanses, exfoliates, and conditions lips with raw brown sugar, pineapple enzymes and exotic oils, leaving them beautifully smooth and soft (insert). Two Bite Beauty lip products in one month? Don’t mind if I do! The Agave Lip Balm is very thick and hydrating, while the Sugar Lip Scrub gently exfoliates dry lips. Both work wonderfully together or on their own.
- Four Sigmatic Golden Latte Mushroom Mix
A drinkable blend of natural ingredients that deliver a glow from within radiance (insert). Receiving a food or beverage sample in a Sephora Play! was a first for me. I was very intrigued as I eagerly brewed myself a cup. Well, a shiitake and turmeric latte tastes… exactly like it sounds LOL It is very sweet, but also savory. This, to me, tastes like someone mixed my Mom’s yellow curry into my morning tea. Both are great on their own, but together? gag Sorry Sephora, I will have to find another way to “beautify” 😂
- Sunday Riley CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum
A fast absorbing serum that uses vitamin C to brighten skin (insert). Huh, I received this product two months in a row. It’s a good thing I really enjoyed this serum and am happy to receive a refill 😉 This is the most moisturizing Vitamin C serum I’ve tried to date. It is creamy, but absorbs quickly into the skin without any irritation.
Overall Rating: I was very happy with January’s Sephora Play! Bag so I’m giving it a rating of 10/10 stars. Surprisingly, I actually liked that they threw in a curveball with the beauty drink, even if I couldn’t finish it off. I appreciate that they are switching things up a bit. There was a nice variety and product selection in this month’s box. My favorite picks of the bunch are the Bite Beauty Lip Crayon and Sunday Riley Serum.
What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag? Which products were you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
