Play! by Sephora May 2019 Unboxing and Review
Hi, dolls! Today, I’ll be reviewing May’s Play by Sephora! You can find my review of April’s box here. Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).
May’s theme is Beauty BFFs and comes with 6 products. As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores and online for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.
- Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara
An out of this world mascara that adds weightless length and volume for up to 36 hours (insert). I haven’t had much luck with Benefit mascaras in the past so I was ready to pass this along, but o my goodness, this might be my new favorite mascara! 😱 The narrow rubber brush really grips the root of the lash to build volume, while also combing upward root to tip to prevent clumps. It has a wet, pitch black formula that quickly builds intense volume and length. After two coats, I am shocked at how long and thick my lashes look. I’m in LOVE.
- It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Eye Cream Smooths, Brightens, and Depuffs
An intensive eye cream that reduces the appearance of dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness (insert). This came at the right time as I just finished my current eye cream. The lightweight gel formula absorbs quickly, while still providing enough hydration to prime the eye area for makeup. Plus, how about that ombre blue packaging 😍
- Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out
A high impact, matte liquid lipstick in a deep nude shade that stays put for eight hours (insert). Smashbox has a very comfortable mousse-like formula that is ultra lightweight, pigmented, and longlasting. Stepping Out is a beautiful brown-y nude that I am happy to add to the collection. I will never tire of nude lipsticks! 😉
- Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream
A coconut infused body cream that delivers intense hydration for 72 hours (insert). Woo hoo! I’m stoked to get a refill of this delicious body cream! The gel formula absorbs very quickly and feels so lightweight on the skin, while still providing hydration. This does have more of a Buttered Popcorn Jelly Belly scent than cocount, which is what I’d expect from the name. However, when it comes to fragrances, it’s all a matter of personal preference. I still think this smells delicious and the hubby likes it too!
- Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair Leave In Heat Protection Spray
A vitamin rich leave-in spray that cares for and protects strands from heat damage (insert). I sprayed a generous amount of this heat ptrotectant on the ends of damp, freshly washed hair before I went in with the blow dryer. The cream smells amazing, but I was impressed at how it did not leave my hair feeling weighed down or overly sticky, which is my biggest gripe with leave-in products.
- Viktor & Rolf Salty Flower
Orange flowers mingle with cashmere and salty accord to create a fresh, magical fragrance (insert). I love Viktor&Rolf fragrances so I was excited to put this new Salty Flower (wut? 😅) scent to the test! Like the Flowerbomb, this is a strong, heady floral scent that stays on all day long. Sephora, thank you for bringing back the perfume samples!
Overall Rating: I’m very happy with May’s Sephora Play! Bag so I’m giving it a rating of 10/10 stars. Just when I was losing interest in Sephora Play!, they came through with an excellent box. I was genuinely excited about trying every single product and impressed with their performance. That does not happen often! 😉 I’m hardpressed to pick a favorite of the bunch, but my top two would have to be the Benefit BADgal Bang Mascara and Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream.
What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag? Which products were you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
