Play! by Sephora September 2019 Unboxing and Review
Happy Sunday Funday! Today, I’ll be reviewing September’s Play by Sephora! You can find my review of June’s box here. Play! is Sephora’s subscription service that provides 5 beauty samples plus 1 fragrance sample for $10/month (plus local taxes).
September’s theme is Must See Beauty and comes with 6 products. As usual, it includes an insert with product descriptions/ directions and a Play! Pass, redeemable in Sephora stores and online for 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase.
- First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Pores Be Gone Matte Primer
This makeup gripping primer blurs the appearance of pores – plus it’s noncomedogenic, so there’s no breakout performances (insert). Despite its claims to be a matte primer, this did not leave my skin feeling overly dry, whatsoever. I don’t see too much of a difference in prolonging the longevity of my makeup, but I enjoy the hydrating formula and pore filling effect.
- Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara in Black
This weightless mascara is heavy on the drama – it delivers length, volume, and lift to lashes (insert). This mascara has a fabulous slim brush, which makes it a breeze to reach all the little lashes in the inner and outer corners of the eyes. The pitch black formula builds length and layers well without clumping. Overall, it’s a good mascara, but does not perform any better than a drugstore mascara to warrant the luxury price tag.
- Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel
Get brows that steal the spotlight with this volumizing gel – it uses tiny microfibers that adhere to hairs and skin for mess free application (insert). First off, this packaging is adorable. The teeny tiny brush adds a light tint of color and tames unruly hairs. If you have naturally thick or defined brows, this is great on its own for those quick, no makeup- makeup days. However, if you have sparse brows, I would recommend this as an additional step after you’ve shaped them with a pencil or pomade.
- Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash
This strawberry infused sugar formula is a triple threat since it acts like a cleanser, an exfoliator, and a nurturer- that’s a sweet combo (insert). I loved the Fresh Soy Cleanser so much, I’m fairly certain I will enjoy this Strawberry Exfoliating Wash as well. For that reason, I’m saving this travel friendly bottle to pack in my carry-on for my upcoming trip.
- Amika Bushwick Beach No Salt Wave Spray
When this no salt wave spray makes a guest appearance in your routine, you know it’s going to be a good hair day (insert). I love the look of beachy summer waves, but I’m not a fan of sea salt sprays as they tend to leave my hair feeling sticky and dried out. So I appreciate that this wave spray is salt-free.
- Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau de Parfum
An enticing scent for when you’re in an independent mood (insert). A spritz of this potent fragrance lasts all day on me. That said, the musky scent is a little too overpowering for me, personally. It reminds me of a unisex, borderline men’s cologne and I prefer fruity and/ or floral scents so I will be passing this along.
Overall Rating: I’m fairly satisfied with September’s Sephora Play! Bag so I’m giving it a rating of 8/10 stars. Overall, I’m happy with the product selection. The only thing that would have pushed this box to a higher star rating would be another makeup or skincare item instead of a haircare sample. My favorite picks of the batch are the Fresh Strawberry Face Wash and Hourglass Caution Mascara.
What are your thoughts on the Sephora Play! Bag? Which products were you most excited to test out?
XO,
Mary Dee
